Safe Skin Procedures Before Your Wedding Day

All women, not just brides, should practice safe skin procedures. The biggest suggestion and most obvious one is to avoid the sun altogether and to use a facial sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 at all times. This should both moisturize on a daily basis, and provide sun protection to avoid the freckles and “splotchy” tan.

But there is more to radiant skin than controlling sun exposure. Your daily facial regimen, no matter what your age, should consist of a cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen and eye cream. In addition, you should try an exfoliating scrub or facial mask 2 or 3 times a month to remove dry flaky skin and add “ultra moisture” to your skin.

If your wedding is in two weeks, or still months away - start now! It is never too early to learn good skin habits, and you will be thankful for it later.

Top Skin Care Tips That You Should Work Into Your Regular Routine:

Use concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone. This lightens dark circles, brightens your face and helps you look rested. Lock it in with loose powder applied overtop with a powder puff.
Learn to relax. Your mental health is important to your overall physical health and beauty. Take long baths, light candles, lose yourself in a great novel, but find some time for YOU.
Pamper dry skin. Even with moisturizers daily, there will always be certain areas that become dry from time to time. For these, you will want to use soothing and healing products designed for intense moisture on bad areas.
Sunscreen! As mentioned, a minimum SPF 15 should be used on your face ALL YEAR LONG. Try a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen and save a step. If you’re planning outdoor activities for longer than one hour, then use a minimum SPF25.
Stay hydrated. Keeping yourself topped up on fluids contributes to soft, moist and supple skin. Herbal teas are excellent for staying hydrated, indulging in relaxation time, and are caffeine free too, but any non-alcoholic beverage can aid in good skin.
Buy new products. If your makeup bag contains the same colours and products you used in high school, go shopping! Trends change and so do you! Your skin tone may be different, your hair colour may be deeper or lighter, your clothing may not be the same colour scheme as you had “back then”. It is definitely time for some new makeup.

Acne Prevention Routine

As for the dreaded stress-acne (which is now becoming more and more accepted as scientific fact), try to avoid stress. When that can’t happen, or when you have a big stress event coming up (such as a wedding), start your acne prevention routine 10 days before the event. Stress-activated hormones boost oil production and the grab-something-to-eat-quick syndrome means cutting corners on skin care. Keep a benzoyl peroxide product on hand to stop acne bacteria, salicylic or glycolic acid products to keep pores clear, and if you already need them, supply yourself with any prescription medications for those stubborn breakouts.

Wash and moisturize your face every day. Use a cleanser and lotion combination that is right for your skin type. Oil-free for oily skin, foaming cleansers for normal skin, and creamy cleansers for dry skin. Top with sunscreen, or use a moisturizer that includes it, and use a separate eye cream. The skin around the eyes is much more delicate than elsewhere on your face and needs special attention.

Be good to your skin and it will radiate good health and happiness on your wedding day and far into the future.
